Oven barbecued turkeylegs

So delicious, and easy to make, serve with green salad
4 Servings

  • 4 turkey legs or thighs (or 1/4 cut legs (2 1/2 - 3 lbs.)
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt plus 1/2 tsp. celery salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • 6 tablespoons cooking oil
  • ½ c. each orange marmalade and bottled chili sauce (I substitute 1/2 c. chopped stewed tomatoes and 1/2 c. spaghetti sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1) Wash and dry poultry pieces.

2) Blend flour, salt, celery salt, pepper and chili powder. Dredge turkey (or chicken) with this mixture.

3) Heat oil in heavy skillet. Brown poultry parts evenly on all sides.

4) Stir together marmalade, chili sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce.

5) Put browned meat into shallow baking dish. Spoon chili mixture over evenly. (Can be made ahead to this point.)

6) Cover dish. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Baste once or twice with the sauce during baking. Good served with hot fluffy rice and tossed salad.
